Residence & Immigration

Moving to Europe Starts With the Right Pathway

There is no single immigration process for Europe.

Residence and immigration requirements depend on the country, your nationality, the purpose of your stay and your individual circumstances.

EU Job Agency helps international clients understand the available options, identify a suitable pathway and coordinate the documentation and practical steps required during the process.

We do not issue visas or residence permits. Final decisions are made exclusively by the competent authorities.

Which Pathway May Be Suitable for You?

Depending on the destination country and your circumstances, different residence options may be available.

Employment

If you have received a job offer or are planning to work in Europe, you may require a work authorization, residence permit, visa or a combined permit. The exact procedure depends on the destination country, nationality, profession and type of employment. If you are still looking for employment, visit our Work in Europe section.

Study
Students accepted by a recognized educational institution may be eligible to apply for residence based on their studies. Requirements may include proof of admission, financial resources, accommodation, health insurance and other supporting documentation. Conditions for employment during studies and opportunities after graduation vary between countries.

Family Reunification

In certain circumstances, family members of people who are already legally residing in a European country may be eligible to join them.

Eligibility depends on factors such as:

  • the residence status of the sponsoring family member;

  • the relationship between the applicant and sponsor;

  • income or financial resources;

  • accommodation;

  • health insurance;

  • country-specific requirements.

  • Not every residence status automatically provides the same family reunification rights.

Business & Entrepreneurship

Some countries provide residence pathways for entrepreneurs, company owners, self-employed professionals or individuals establishing qualifying business activities. Requirements vary significantly between countries and may include a business plan, available capital, professional experience, economic activity or other conditions. Availability must always be confirmed under the current legislation of the destination country.

Investment-Based Residence

Certain countries may offer residence options connected with qualifying investments or economic activity. These programs change frequently and should be assessed individually based on current legislation. EU Job Agency does not present investment residence as a guaranteed route to permanent residence or citizenship. Any investment opportunity should also be subject to appropriate legal, financial and commercial due diligence.

Highly Qualified Professionals

Certain European countries provide specific residence pathways for highly qualified professionals and individuals with specialized skills. Eligibility may depend on education, qualifications, salary, professional experience and the proposed employment.

Researchers and Academic Professionals

Researchers, academics and other professionals participating in qualifying research activities may have access to specific residence categories depending on the destination country and institution.

Other Residence Options

Depending on the country, additional pathways may exist for:

  • self-employed professionals;

  • remote workers;

  • trainees;

  • volunteers;

  • researchers;

  • graduates;

  • financially independent individuals;

  • family members;

  • other specific categories.

Availability and eligibility must always be assessed individually.

How We Can Help

Initial Case Assessment

We begin by understanding:

  • your nationality;

  • current country of residence;

  • preferred destination;

  • purpose of relocation;

  • employment situation;

  • education and professional background;

  • family circumstances;

  • expected duration of stay;

  • other relevant information.

This allows us to identify which options may be worth examining further.

Pathway Review

We review potential residence options based on your circumstances and the current requirements of the destination country. Where several pathways may be available, we can help you understand the practical differences between them.

Documentation Coordination

Once an appropriate process has been identified, we help organize the required documentation.

Depending on the procedure, documents may include:

  • passport;

  • proof of employment;

  • employment contract;

  • proof of education or qualifications;

  • proof of accommodation;

  • financial documentation;

  • health insurance;

  • family documents;

  • criminal record certificate;

  • company or business documentation;

  • certified translations;

  • legalized or apostilled documents;

  • other supporting evidence.

Exact requirements depend on the specific procedure.

Professional Coordination

Certain cases may require the involvement of:

  • immigration lawyers;

  • local legal professionals;

  • tax advisers;

  • accountants;

  • relocation specialists;

  • employers;

  • educational institutions;

  • investment professionals;

  • other qualified service providers.

Where appropriate, EU Job Agency can help coordinate communication between the relevant parties.

How the Process Works

1. Tell Us About Your Plans

Provide information about your situation, destination and reason for relocating.

2. Initial Assessment

We review the information and determine which residence pathways may be relevant.

3. Requirements Review

We identify the principal conditions and documentation associated with the selected process.

4. Preparation

The required documents and supporting information are collected and prepared.

5. Application Process

The application is submitted to the appropriate authority or through the procedure applicable in the destination country. Where the application must be submitted personally, we help explain the relevant steps.

6. Authority Decision

The competent authority reviews the application and makes the final decision. EU Job Agency cannot influence or guarantee the outcome.

7. Relocation and Next Steps

Following approval, additional steps may be required after arrival, such as:

  • address registration;

  • residence card collection;

  • tax registration;

  • social security registration;

  • insurance;

  • local administrative procedures;

  • other country-specific requirements.

Residence Is Not the Same as Citizenship

A residence permit gives a person permission to live in a country under specific conditions and for a specified period. Permanent residence and citizenship are separate legal statuses with their own requirements. Holding a temporary residence permit does not automatically result in permanent residence or citizenship.

Eligibility may depend on factors including:

  • duration and continuity of legal residence;

  • integration requirements;

  • language knowledge;

  • financial independence;

  • criminal record;

  • tax compliance;

  • family circumstances;

  • other conditions established by national law.

These requirements vary between countries and can change over time.

Important Information

Immigration law is country-specific and subject to change. Information provided on this website is general in nature and should not be considered individual legal advice. EU Job Agency is not a government authority and does not issue visas, work permits, residence permits or citizenship.

We cannot guarantee:

  • approval of an application;

  • a specific processing time;

  • the decision of any authority;

  • permanent residence;

  • citizenship;

  • the continuation of an immigration program or pathway.

Where legal representation or regulated professional advice is required, the relevant service must be provided by an appropriately qualified professional.
